Did You Know?
If you’re like me, you did not know that the rainbow flag’s stripes actually symbolize different “aspects” of life.
The original rainbow flag, designed by Gilbert Baker and first featured in the San Francisco Pride parade in 1978, had eight stripes. The colors symbolized sex (hot pink), life (red), healing (orange), nature (green), sunlight (yellow), magic (art), harmony (blue) and spirit (violet).
Anyone know why they dropped the pink? Is sex really less important than sunlight?

In the late 70’s as demand for the freedom flag increased Baker had a very difficult time locating hot pink fabric. He eventually dropped the color from the design. Later the turquoise was dropped when they decided to display the flag vertically on a lamp post. This color was obscured by the post so removing the color was the simpliest way to correct the problem.
Many gay stores around Texas sell freedom flag stickers etc in the shape of Texas. I’ve seen it for a couple of other states and even in the shape of the US map. They tend to do almost anything with the freedom flag these days.
Take care,
Hunter
