“I do not want a crown, I do not want a throne. I only want to rub my forehead in the dust and dance with abandon over the earth. If the Sultan would show me favour, then I might be allowed to dance even upon the winds… Because those who denounce me are not real men in the spiritual sense, they cannot accept love with all its consequences in their hearts. Oh my love, there a thousand snares in every form; oh my love, one who is not a real man can never experience true love!”
-Sufi mystic Akhi Jamshed Rajgiri defending himself before the Sultan of Juanpur
Recently a media outlet in the Middle East had their readers vote for the best looking Middle Eastern men of the past. I’ll do a few posts and share the results with you.
According to the article, Mike Brant was born Moshe Brand and was the son of Holocaust survivors.
Mike was one of the chosen few who made it big in the international music scene. For the Israel of the mid-’70s, his look was considered impressive and glamorous. Brant introduced sex appeal to the puritan atmosphere of the kibbutz.
People still visit his grave despite the more than 30 years that have passed since he jumped to his death from the balcony of his Paris apartment in 1975.
And now for your French lesson of the day (Love the shirt!!!!):
According to reports, the Israeli Ml clothing chain will soon open a store in Dubai. This makes it the first Israeli fashion brand to have an outlet in the Arab emirate.
ml signed a distribution agreement with a French company which specializes in marketing large-size fashion lines. The French company signed a deal with the Albulug Company owned by one of Dubai’s wealthiest families to open an ml chain in Dubai. In the fist stage of the deal, ml will open four stores with an average area of 100 square meters in prestigious shopping centers and leading malls.
Ml will invest some $1.5 million in its Dubai stores.
As part of Tori Amos’ world tour to promote her new album “American Doll Posse”, the piano playing diva will preform in Turkey and Israel. In Israel she will perform at the Ra’anana Amphitheater July 21.
Check out other tour dates and venues at Tori’s website. The clip below is not for young ears…and maybe not your workplace.
Donna Karan took time away from the sketching table to cut the rug at a celebration recently in Tel Aviv. According to this report, she was in the Middle East to accept an award from the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. I wouldn’t kick that guy she’s dancing with out of the bed either…
In July 2005, some folks in Berkley got together for a protest and some old fashioned exhibitionism. (This link is probably not work safe and you may go blind too.) The protest was called Breast Not Bombs and featured lots of bare chested women. Men got into the action too and dropped their pants for the cause.
These peace protesters weren’t the prettiest naked people I’ve seen, but I guess peace comes at a high price…
